To chemsolve:

The OH is actually like carbonyl, while the carbonyl on the molecule is like OH. So you may be difficult to convert only one OH to halide in a normal way.

try to use SOCl2 to modify OH then react with alchol or use carbonyl chloride to react with OH

If it works as chemsolve says, it may be a route to make bromide or chloride from the OH and the bromide will provide a chance to induce CH2)n-COOH by Heck Coupling or Sonogashira Coupling.
