1-Methyl-4-chloroimidazole (15).
-A solution of 17.8 g (0.153mol) of l-methy1-5-chloroimidazole,2*5 7 g (0.4 mol) of methyliodide, and 150 ml of benzene was refluxed for 1 hr. On cooling,the precipitated 1,3-dirnethyl-4(5)-hloroimidazoliumio dide was collected by filtration. This was transferred to a round-bottomed flask and heated to 220'. Methyl iodide was evolved.After the majority of the methyl iodide had been removed, the residue was distilled to give 11.1 g (62'%) of 1-methyl-4-chloroimidazole and a small amount of the 1,5 isomer, bp 124-125℃(20 mm)。
