Abstract

An effective synthesis of 6-functionalized endo-tricyclo[5.2.1.02,6]deca-4,8-dien-3-ones (7) starting from the carboxylic acid has been accomplished, whereby the chem. scope of the tricyclodecadienone system as a synthetic equiv. of cyclopentadienone has been expanded. Abstract

Under trialkylphosphine-catalyzed Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction conditions, epoxides react with enones to give rise to homologous aldol adducts. For example, 92 % (2-benzoyl-4,4-dimethylcyclopent-2-enyl)methanol was obtained from 2-((3E)-2,2-dimethyl-5-oxo-5-phenyl-3-pentenyl)oxirane.

Abstract

The Cu-catalyzed intramol. couplings of aryl bromides with 1,3-dicarbonyls via a six-membered ring closure were examd. With CuI (10 mol %) as the catalyst, N,N'-dimethylethylenediamine as the ligand, and Cs2CO3 as the base, the reactions of a-(2-bromobenzyl) b-keto esters in refluxing THF gave the corresponding 4H-1-benzopyrans in high yields via O-arylation. Whereas, reactions of d-(2-bromophenyl) b-keto esters in refluxing dioxane gave 3,4-dihydronaphthalen-2(1H)-ones via C-arylation.
