Abstract

4-Isopropylcinnamic acid was treated with SO2Cl2. Reaction of the product with L-valine Me ester HCl salt and Et3N yielded N-4-isopropylcinnamoyl-L-valine ester. Similarly prepd. were 59 other N-cinnamoyl-.alpha.-amino acid esters I (R1 = H, 4-iso-Pr, 4-Cl, or 2,4-Cl2; R2 = H, Me, iso-Pr, iso-Bu, sec-Bu, or PhCH2; R3 = Me, Et, Pr, or iso-Pr). I (R2 = H, iso-Pr, or sec-Bu) had relatively high fungitoxic activities toward Corticium rolfsii and a Pythium species. With respect to R1, the activity of I were generally 4-iso-Pr > 2,4-Cl2 > 4-Cl > H.
