The sodium hydride dispersion is placed in the reaction flask, and then dry benzene or hexane is added .The mixture is swirled,the hydride is alllowed to settle, and the solvent is removed by decantation or with the aid of a pipet. This procedure,repeated at liast four more times ,does ont completely remove the oil, and allows some of the hyfrode to be carried out with the washing solnentm so that an excess must be used.
