Equil. consts. were detd. at 303 and 373 K for the isomerization of Me3CC6H4X (X = F, Br) and for the transalkylation of PhF with 2,4- and 3,5-(Me3C)2C6H3F and of PhBr with 3,5-(Me3C)2C6H3Br. These consts. and literature values for tert-butylchlorobenzenes were used to calc. the equil. compns. of products from the alkylation of halobenzenes by isobutene. The effect of reactant ratios and temp. in these alkylations was examd. Lowering the temp. increases the selectivity for 3-Me3CC6H4X and 3,5-(Me3C)2C6H3X.
