A molecule of high relative molecular mass，
the structure of which essentially comprises
the multiple repetition of units derived,
actually or conceptually, from molecules of
low relative molecular mass.

Notes:
1 In many cases, especially for synthetic
polymers, a molecule can be regarded as
having a high relative molecular mass if
the addition or removal of one or
a few of the units has a negligible
effect on the molecular properties. This
statement fails in the case of certain
macromolecules for which the properties
may be critically dependent on fine details
of the molecular structure.
2 If a part or the whole of the molecule
has a high relative molecular mass and
essentially comprises the multiple
repetition of units derived, actually
or conceptually, from molecules of
low relative molecular mass,
it may be described as either
macromolecular or polymeric,
or by polymer used adjectivally.

这是我得翻译,因为时间紧,所以有什么不对的地方请大家指正批评

高分子就是具有较高分子量的分子.从本质上来来讲,其结构是由许多分子量相对较低的分子结构单元所构成的.
Notes:
1. 在许多情况下,特别是对于合成高分子来讲,如果给一个分子增加或者减少些结构单元而不影响该分子的性质的话,那么我们就可以认为这个分子有相对较高的分子量.但是如果这个分子的性质严格的依赖于其分子的精细结构,则前述规律不再适用.
2. 如果整个分子或者其一部分是由多个分子量相对较小的重复单元所构成的话,那么这个分子即可以被认是大分子的,也可以被认为是聚合物的.

IUPAC (1994): macromolecules and polymer molecules as synonyms
揳 molecule of high relative molecular mass, the structure of which essentially comprises the
multiple repetition of units derived, actually or conceptually, from molecules of low relative
molecular mass.?
However
Macromolecule implies nothing about structure. It only indicates that it is a molecule of high
relative molecular mass.
Polymer molecule implies a multiple repetition. It consists of many (poly) parts (meros).
?These parts are units derived from small molecules (so-called mers)
?There is only one species of mer, or only a few species of mers. These mers must be present in
multiple repetition
Therefore
Macromolecules and polymer molecules are not synonyms!
A polymer molecule is always a macromolecule but the reverse is not always the case!
Example for macromolecules: Enzyme molecules
- composed of hundreds or thousands of a-amino acid units -NH-CHR-CO-,with up to 20
different substituents R.
The a-amino acid units are arranged in a non-repetitive sequence such as, for example, ala-lysgly-
leu-glu-...gly-gly-leu-...
Example for polymer molecules: Poly(glycine)
- H-(NH-CH2-CO-)nOH where n denotes the number of mers, glycine units -NH-CH2-CO-, per
molecule.
